Ordered the arctic char and it was wonderful! They source their fish as local as they can and the food tastes great! I sat at the bar and Neil was a terrific bartender. He got creative and made me my very own mocktail of apples and cucumber for a refreshing zing! Highly recommend this place for anyone who wants good quality excellent tasting food.

Delicious food in a delightful atmosphere. On a quick stopover to Halifax, a few people recommended this place to me. I was happy they could accommodate a late dinner request and that the place was still pretty full. Lyv and Mark were wonderful waiters and answered our many questions about portion sizes, which were generous. The scallops were fantastic. I will be back again!

The entire experience was first class. Atmosphere is incredible, an old schoolhouse, tastefully updated, but retaining the wood beam charm of a historic building. Cocktail list is original, highlighting local distilleries in the tasty drinks. The wine list is extensive, highlighting Nova Scotia vineyards and their unique varietals. They take the work out of a classic lobster dinner bringing out the best parts of the creature in-shell, but ready to eat. Service was attentive and charming. Would lobster again.

A bit expensive but well worth it. Everything myself and the two others ordered was delicious. Biscuits to start. We also got a complimentary appetizer of salmon croquettas. The desert was tasty too. If I ever go back to Halifax, I would definitely go here again.

I now completely understand why this place has such a high rating! All the staff are trained professionnaly. The plates' presentation is on par. Every detail is taking care of with style. The food is delicious and done exactly how it's suppose to be. A must in halifax! I won't write more because there's already some great written reviews of this place that gives it all the credits it deserves. I have one note: I was surprised that the wine list only had one Riesling.

I came here on a weekend evening with a reservation for 6, and upon arrival we were promptly seated. The waiter came over to introduce himself, and he came back to take our drink orders. I got an Arnold Palmer (half lemonade half iced tea), and it was good. For appetizers, I got the chowder which was tasty and had a lot of seafood in it, and the soup was creamy. For my main, I got the five fish, and the shrimp were amazing with the grilled flavor. The lobster was also delicious, and the fish were average compared to the other two. Scallops had a good grill flavor too. The risotto was too salty, but the risotto was perfectly cooked and chewy. For dessert, the waiter brought us a platter of the available desserts so we could see them, and I got the berry creme brulee which was served in a jar with a bow. There wasn't really a creme brulee top, as it came with a shard of sugar (which I didn't eat), and there were some berries on top of the creme. I came out of the restaurant quite full (though to be fair, I wasn't too hungry before I came here), and it was a very satisfactory meal. The waiter was patient and came to check up on us appropriately, and the experience was great. Good ambiance too!

Went in to try their lobster and seafood chowders and they did not disappoint. My favorite was the lobster chowder as there were big chunks of lobster and it was deliciously creamy. Their home biscuits were a nice pairing for the chowder as well.

I have been invited there by our local suppliers and we had a good time. Oysters are very different than what I have been used in France. There are less salty and less iodine taste. Which is better for me. The Halibut was just fantastic. I did not set 5 stars because for the price it could have been much better.

My wife and i ducked in there while out on the town. The ambiance with the decor and the live jazz was terrific. Additionally the bartender was excellent and she had some recipes for mocktails for the pregnant wife which were excellent!

Top notch service, top notch food. There is a reason this is one of the best restaurants in the city! Went for a work function - seafood chowder was delicious and almost a bit smoky or bacon-y - amazing though! Lobster gnocchi was perfect portion size and clearly handmade pasta - delectable sauce with it by the way! Ended with date sticky toffee pudding - that is a deadly delicious dessert they've created!! Also had the boreal explorer (can't remember if that was the exact name) cocktail - highly recommend it. Overall, a fantastic experience - the chef came out to say hi at the end and asked if our meal was good - what a class act! Just shows you the pride they take in their establishment. It's pricier but entirely worth it if you want an excellent meal out:)

Atmosphere is fantastic, we were informed by the head chef that it is the second oldest building in the city. Food was awesome, everything was done perfectly, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The live music was really good, not overly loud but enough that you could make out the song. Well worth the price, will be back again.

Had lunch here on 3 January with my toddler. He very much enjoyed his fish nuggets and the seafood chowder I ate had incredible flavour. It rivaled my father's homemade chowder. The service was very friendly and the prices were entirely reasonable. I highly recommend this place.

I went twice and the first time was when they had a place on Purcel's Cove Rd and many missed that spot as they come from church and go there on Saturdays. They do it up differently and well, it is not for me. I went again on Quinpool too but did not get the hype that my friends went on about as they go there often and love it. I did hear the salads are delicious so may try that if I do go back.

Oddly I had never heard of this place, I am sad about that. It was my lunch guests choice and what a great choice it was. Amazing service, and food! The fish of the fish and chips was so tender it was flaking. One of my guests had the seafood platter and reported it was great as well. We were all impressed. Large portions and great prices. I was speaking with the owner and she is a great person and very caring of her customers. Will be back for sure and I highly recomend this place!

Price value is excellent. This is not a place you might not choose for a fancy date or a business dinner, but their uncomplicated food is very well made and reasonably priced. We took chowder and unbreaded fish with chips, and loved it - especially the soup was delicious with creamy, fishy taste.

We are upstairs at CUT. Very good, not great. Service was excellent, the servers were very knowledgeable and very friendly. However, when you are paying top dollar for food, it has to taste and look as such. Food presentation is minimalist and lacks the overall sumptuousness that you would expect from a restaurant offering $60, 70 , 80 steaks (others on the menu are even more expensive than this) plus $11 to $20 sides. The flavour of the food again is very good, not great. The dishes lack that flare that would put them over the top. The dining room is beautiful, service is inspired, however there is just something missing with regards to the meal.... Again, all this is in the context of price point vs. what is being offered. We paid $500 for 4 people (appetizers, 6 drinks altogether, 4 entrees + sides, no dessert or coffee, tax and gratuity included)

Food was fine, nothing extra ordinary. Apparently they don't toast the burger buns which makes it very dense. She got the boil which was decent. Told them it was her birthday and they brought out a Blondie with happy birthday written in it. Unlike pretty much every other restaurant they charged us not only for that but for a refill of soda water. Don't think we will be back anytime soon.

Seafood, creative and classy We have been on a ten day Atlantic Province tour, so, seafood aplenty. This spot is upscale, has great atmosphere and is more creative with how they plate and prepare seafood. And pretty good value considering their full 1.5pound Lobster was cheaper than a very casual seafood shack we were at in PEI the day before. I had the seafood bucket with Lobster, clams, mussels, sausage, potatoes - the portion of shellfish could have been more generous but the flavour more than made up for that. Partner had the Lobster and loved it. Most importantly a place called “Shuck” had better do Oysters well - and they DO IT RIGHT. Several times this trip I was disappointed at how a place plated their Oysters allowing the all-important brine to spill out. This place has a perfect plate on ice (see my pictures) and the waiters are well schooled as shellfish-sommeliers. Great place to celebrate or have a romantic dinner. Most seafood spots are geared towards groups, tourists and can be a little hokey. This place is charming, creative, classy. Nice patio too.

Great food, great view, and awesome service! We tried the lobster roll, which was not too saucy with a good amount of lobster in a soft buttery bun. The spicy fish sandwich was tasty, a little on the petite side, but very fresh tasting and I would definitely get a side with it if that was all I was getting. The seafood chowder was amaziballs, lots of tasty seafood in that chowda! Would go again in a heart beat!

After a walk along the boardwalk in Halifax you might decide you would like to have some fish and chips, it is the Atlantic after all. There are plenty of places to get fish and chips on the Halifax side but if you’re craving fresh and local, then take the ferry across to Dartmouth and stop in the Norman Newman Marketplace at a little place called Evan's Seafood on the main floor. Although the seating appears to be cafeteria style the staff will bring your meal out to you when it's ready and check in with you to see if you have any other needs from time to time so don't forget to tip. on a nice day you can sit on the picnic tables provided out in the sunshine and by the Bay. The fish is locally caught and the batter is freshly made. Both are excellent. The tartar sauce is also made fresh on-site. be sure to take a taste of the fresh fish first, before you use the tartar sauce. That way you get to taste the flavor of the fish without any thing else. It is excellent. The fries are very good too. Fresh cut and fried to perfection. Well worth the stop.

If you are looking for beer based cocktails and Atlantic sea food to go with them, then Warehouse (what's in a name, after all!) at Waterfront, Downtown Halifax is the answer. Especially likable during summer with outdoor seating. The Atlantic breeze and mingling summer crowd peppered with tourists make a terrific atmosphere. A piece of advice though. Go there well intime with your small group, occupy a cozy table with a good view and have a blast of time. Be prepared to pay "downtown cum tourist" prices, which is worth paying for an occasional premium kitty party or a family outing.

We had our 2nd visit this week as we just moved to town. Best darn seafood chowder ever and the seafood tower was awesome. A little of everything for a reasonable price. We were pleased with the service and the kids had the opportunity to pet a lobster ;) highly recommend sitting by the fire in the winter! We will definitely be back.

As you walk in you get the rustic feel that is offered by the old barn look from the outside and a olden cigar lounge for the front of the house (where I was seated as the main area was full). You sit down and you are presented with a news paper themed menu and a glass of water. I liked the look of the menu as it is a nice touch to keep guests busy while waiting for food or drink when the company might not be interesting enough for a good conversation! I ordered a Red Ale and went through reviews of the food. I saw some complaints about the lobster roll and thought to try it so that I could confirm. Yes! I would remove it from the menu as it is not nearly good enough to charge that much for at all! The sauce used on the lobster added absolutely nothing towards taste. The lettuce used had a earthy taste to it that overpowered the already underperforming lobster. The chips that was served with it was over spiced but added to the flavour of the lobster as it had just the pure lobster taste. I gave this 3 stars due to the staffs extremely friendly and helpful attitude! I would have to try more dishes here to make a better review but so far it doesn't start off well with a basic dish!

Pretty good overall. Huge place. Service was decent. Food was kind of spotty though. Mine was excellent, with scallops the star of the show. The wife's haddock was just okay. If you don't have time to do a ton of research on restaurants, this is a great option and you will not be disappointed. Not a tiny bit.

Recently enjoyed a great meal with family. Beer selection is good, mostly from Craft Brewers from around the province. The Bacon Wrapped Scallops where some of the best I’ve had, and complimented the Fish & Chips. The Seafood Thermadore was chock full of good bits of Salmon, Scallops, Mussels, and Haddock. Did I mention they have really good and tasty beer???

This place is just great. Amazing flavour. Great service. Friendly staff. It’s a must go to when you are in town. Make sure u ask what type of seafood season it is and get it. I have tried the clams, shrimps, crab legs and lobsters. They were all great, the sauce is just phenomenal. Once u go home you know it’s a place you will go back to again 👍👍

Grab your bib and gloves cause this meal’s about to get saucy. This ain’t your grandmas’ seafood this is the CAPTAINS’ seafood. I tried the crab legs and shrimp with the spicy sauce and dear lord were my tastebuds in for a wild ride. The wait staff were quick as a whip with excellent recommendations for first timers. After my meal I wandered home, sat on my couch and fell into a deep, satisfied seafood coma. 10/10 would get saucy again.

Great service, wonderful staff, but the food... possibly due to it being a bit out of session. The flavour of the food was great, some of the sea food tasted really frozen. prices were kinda out there. 46$ for 4 frozen king crab legs no thanks.

All I can say is, weird. The whole expect felt like one big gimmick, which would have been fine if the food was better. If I'm going to be paying such a high price for seafood, I expect it to be quality and preferably local. Felt like a poorly executed tourist trap in the wrong area.

Took my whole family here and we had a great time getting messy! So much fun! and delicious too! all the food came in plastic bags full of the sauce of your choice for all to share! this is not your fine dining experience, it's a hands on type of dining experience, don't be afraid to have fun and get messy! I ordered pretty much everything on the menu and it was all delicious, only complaint is that depending on the season, some of the items on the menu can be very pricey, but that's not really the restaurants fault. Highly recommended!

Our family of 5 took the ferry across from Dartmouth for a late dinner. We looked for something on the waterfront and stumbled across Stayner's. It had a nice patio and kids menu & due to the warm weather we sat outside. Our server was fantastic from start to finish. The kids got their menu's and crayons to keep occupied. My wife and I enjoyed the fish taco's which were absolutely amazing!! I topped mine with a pint of the local Garrison red ale which was a great addition. The food was hot and delicious, the ambience inside was great too as there was live music. Overall, I'd go back whenever we visit N.S. again! Highly recommended!!

Interesting little place to get lunch. Nothing to go out of your way for. Had pie fries and gravy. It was good... but not great. Very large meal, with a ton of fries. Pie was not particularly fresh. I think it had previously been frozen. I've previously had the lobster roll there, which was good. Service is basic but friendly.

I went twice and first time I was alone and thought the portions were too much. I ate half. I did find it on the greasy side. Friendly staff. Not a lot of sitting space but you can go upstairs and the washrooms are up there so not sure what you can do if you are in a wheelchair as maybe there is a washroom on first floor that I am not aware of. I can't remember them having any dessert menu but they give you so much food I doubt you need dessert. The second time I took my friend from Newfoundland and she loved it and would give a five star for sure. She loves gravy and she ate it all. I again found it too greasy for myself. I will not be going back.

Fish was excellent but expensive even though out of tourist season. I have a hard time recommending this place as they would not allow a "purchased" gift certificate to be used for anything but food (ie not for a beer)as if it was a gift from the restaurant for food only and there was no mention of restrictions when purchased on on certificate. It's too bad because the fish and chips were top notch but management cared not.

Came for lunch today. First thing is that the place doesnt smell like fish nor frying oil, which is great for me. Very clean too! The gentleman waiting on us seemed to be working very hard, and checked in on everyone at the tables without being obtrusive. Turns out it was his first day - it really didnt seem like he was new, as he worked efficiently and confidently. My partner and I both had naan sandwiches. I originally ordered lobster sandwich but was told there was no fresh lobster in that day. Disappointing but at least they were honest. Instead had the haddock. A little heavy on the tartar sauce on the sandwich, noticeable only because the fish didnt need it. It was fresh and had that clean taste haddock is supposed to have. Way too much food for a lunch portion, had to leave most of the yummy fries behind. 35 dollars for lunch for two, enough food that dinner can be light tonight. Well done, but next time I really hope there is lobster!

I was disappointed with my visit. Waitress was good, food nit so much and it was one of my face seafood places. Mussels we cold and inedible. Spinach dip was bland. Seafood chowder was very tasty. I've been many times and will give them another chance, but I'm sure the people I took with me won't be back and that's a shame.

Went yesterday. Our server was great, none of the bad experience was on our server, she was excellent. The older server roamed the restaurant floor bellowing into a telephone for 10 minutes at least. The 45 dollar seafood platter was much smaller than we have gotten on other occasions, and the scallops that we received were fake, pressed scallops, which were on par with all you can eat sushi bar “scallops”. I wish I could post a photo here as I have several. Not sure what had happened at this place , but I’ll be spending my money somewhere that’s not just skating by on past reputation , and cares a little more about their customers.

Fish is definitely good. It's the thick kind of batter. Fries are just normal. Love the vinegar based coleslaw. For me this place is not quite as big a deal as the hype around it, but still great fish and chips. Diner-style interior that looks like it hasn't changed since the 80s. Parking is a little awkward. Prices are not exactly cheap but pretty reasonable. They also have pizza and some sandwiches but I've never tried them. Let's be honest you only go out of your way to have the seafood.

So good! Had the shrimp and chips twice. Both times were done to perfection. Large portion sizes. Also got to try a haddock tip from my friend's plate of Haddock tips and chips. Very good. Another friend got a non-seafood option, and enjoyed it, but said it wasn't AMAZING. I think that's reasonable seeing that this is primarily a seafood place. Friendly staff. Sitting on the barstools means you're just a couple feet away from the action, giving an intimate customer-chef experience. Wonderful!

Food is fantastic!! Good portions for the price, friendly staff. Got the haddock tips and the shrimp; the batter was nice and light super hot and fast. Cooked right in front of your eyes. Coleslaw was really good. A friend had the hot turkey sandwich and that was average but didn't expect much since it's a seafood joint! Watched them make burgers and it looked great, so that's another option for non fish eaters.

Every morning I go there with one of my disabled friends and they treat her like a princess, they don't treat her any different. My experience at this restaurant was very good! The food was enjoyable and I was seated right by the ocean. As well, the food had very good proportions. However the drinks were slightly costly, and someone whom I was dining with got a long hair in her soup. However when we mentioned it they immediately gave us a new soup and took 20% off the cost. Very nice place, and I would recommend.

The seafood is excellent. I wasn't in love with the buffalo chicken wrap - the sauce wasn't great and there was a lot of it. The service was excellent, both when we called for our reservation and from our waitress. Attentive without hovering & the food came pretty quickly, even though we had a large group. I was especially impressed to see change tables in both the men's and women's washrooms!

We arrived a little before noon. There appeared to be (at least one) bus tour in when we arrived. We were seated quickly, on the waterfront patio. Our waitress came to our table very soon after we sat down and took our drink order. When she returned with our drinks, we both ordered the fish and chips. Our food arrived very quickly (in about 10 minutes). The fish was lightly battered (the way we both like it) and it was very fresh, light and flaky. The fries were the crispy style and were cooked to perfection. Overall, an EXCELLENT experience and I would recommend Murphy's to anyone.

It's a fun place to have a seafood meal, and fairly priced, but don't expect perfection. We liked the unlimited mussels. The lobsters were ok to good. The steak in the surf and turf was a marginal cut of beef. We still had fun in the rustic, informal setting. Funny quirks: You ask for coffee and they tell you to go over to the corner of the feeding hall and help yourself.

The Shore Club is Nova Scotia's version of a lobster supper. You get an all you can eat mussel and salad bar and your choice of one of three lobster sizes. The supper is priced on your lobster size choice. With drinks and the largest size lobster, dinner for two will be about $150. Well worth it. We go two or three times a season.

A wonderful experience for someone that has never experienced a "traditional" Lobster Supper. The lobster was really good. The unlimited salad bar was appreciated, the unlimited fresh steamed mussels were good (it was my first mussel so I'm no expert). The included dessert is a nice touch - nothing outstanding but nobody was declining it! Our table also bought a bottle of wine for the table at an extremely fair price. Staff was all very friendly and service was quick!

A fun historic place to have a traditional picnic style lobster dinner. The salad bar is pretty basic, but I usually pig out on the all you can eat mussels. They cook a lot of lobsters, so they know how to get them just right every time. They have live music on Saturdays, but it is bit bit loud for my old ears. Hosts are friendly. Blueberry and lemon bar desserts are both amazing. My wife threatens me with serious repercussions if I try to eat any of hers.

This is a lobster shack... The institution since 1946. I do not understand why people complain about prices... This is the best dinner for your money. Family loved the lobster dinner ( all you can eat salad bar, mussels and your choice of cooked lobster in sea water) I got the steak as I am not a seafood guy. This place seems to be popular with locals. Generous portions, fair prices, and over all pretty good food. The issue is consistency. I typically order fish and chips here but it is not always as it should be. On my most recent visit I had the 2 piece fish and one piece was fantastic but the other had a rubbery, tough, texture that was unpleasant. That said, I will go back.

My wife ordered a chicken wrap without tomatoes and it was made wrong. It looked great rolled, cut in half but was full of chopped tomatoes. No big deal right. What was brought the second time was a disgrace and the look in the server's face was very telling. A sheet of tinfoil with a flat unwrapped pita, 3 WHOLE stalks of romaine lettuce and a pile of chicken in the middle. I asked what that was and was told that's your wrap. When I asked Sam what the deal was he says that's how I make them. Looked like the ingredients were thrown on a sheet. My wife was totally uncomfortable with the looks from the staff and we decided after over 10 years of patronage we were done with Sam's.

Sam's Seafood is a great diner style resturant. It's often busy but the experianced and friendly staff are prompt and attentive. I've had wraps, sandwiches and breakfast with no complaints on the food. Unfortunately they serve terrible coffee, atrocious beans and watery, but the food is great so just don't order coffee.

We went to Mcelvie's on the last day of a conference. We had a party of 7 with us including a child. The host was very gracious and shuffled around a table so that we could all be accommodated. The food and the service was excellent and we also got excellent guidance with the wine. The icing on the cake was we got a complimentary bag of bannock bread to take home after our meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Im glad I went around the area and just found out about this restaurant recently. I end up really liking their coated cod's tongue and I was reluctant to try it at first. I like their fish n chips and slaw is very creamy which I really like. I was lucky to be able to try a sample of their chowder and the taste reminded me of childhood! This place is very clean considering the guy was alone when I had lunch. The customer service is very friendly. The neighbourhood is real nice and quiet and their customers are pleasant too! I would give more than 5 stars.

My god their poutine! The cheese curds actually squeak on your teeth like the traditional Quebecois curds! Their fish and chips batter is great, not too overbearing either. They look small, so I ordered two and had to take the other piece home because I was full. More for later! The cook came out to serve us and did it in a really fun way too. Smiles all around!

Decided to give this place a visit while walking around the area; it was a great, cozy place to stop in after being battered by the chilly wind. Lots of windows make for a bright space with decor that is clean but not overwhelming. The cook (and owner perhaps?) made it a great and personal experience, and thankfully recommended I go with a medium instead of large newphie poutine! Food is good and affordable, and the cheese curds actually squeak. An absolutely lovely lunch spot.

This is another one of my favorite places to go and to tell others to go to for the best fish and chips and chowders. Large portions so sometimes I split a plate with a friend. There is extra space now and it is always busy. It is closed on Mondays. When you go between 11am and 2pm you get the 2 piece fish and chips for a deal of a price. Friendly atmosphere like family here.

Amazing atmosphere! Super clean, very welcoming and the fish n chips were awesome. Really looking forward to heading back to try the fresh clams soon. Yummy spot!

This restaurant is appropriately named....it is truly fantastic! It's more like a diner than a restaurant, which is better in my opinion. Very friendly staff and the fish and chips are to die for. Best in the city!
