We had an absolutely amazing time at the Halifax Citadel. The staff was amazing! Patient and willing to field all questions. Fabulous displays. My favourite part was the pipes and drumming demonstration. Beautiful view from just about everywhere. Very easy to find with parking available for a nominal fee. Ask them about their children's programming.

Excellent place to learn and experience history! This was one of the last stationary defense ever built and as such is the architectural culmination of all fortress-type buildings preceding it. The site is very well preserved and that combined with the re-enactors its like being taken back in time. Be sure to plan enough time to walk the grounds and walls as well as watch the demonstrations and changing of the guard. You won't regret it!

The guides there are very knowledgeable. Great place to learn about the history of Canada's military. It gets cold in the winter though, so I suggest going when it's warm outside.

This is a great spot to view parts of surrounding Halifax city. Drive around, stop in one of several 'rest spots'. Check out the construction techniques...we CANNOT create walls this impressive anymore. Part of the 'lost technology' class.

Finally got to see this place after being in Halifax so many! It's history alive. A landmark that has to be visited plus the view of the city and port from that high is beautiful. It gives you another persepctive of the city. Try to be there right before the strike of Noon for the shooting of the gun!

The citadel itself is not too exciting, but the included tour is recommended. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, and they all wear traditional uniforms, which enhances the experience. There is a short demonstration of firing (blanks from) an old rifle, which is cool. Inside the rooms in the Citadel there are some exhibitions that go over different aspects of the history of Halifax, and also demonstrates how the Garrison used to live and take care of the place. All in all, a nice way to spend some time in Halifax.

Great place to go for a walk. Took my kids for a walk and they had fun looking at the old structures. Gets a 4 because they closed the entrances. You use yo be able to go into the structures, you no longer can.

It's a really awesome piece of history. Great informative plates to tell the history of this secret Halifax treasure. The building is also big enough to provide a lot of shade on hot sunny days like today.

Prince of Wales Tower is an old and robust structure erected by the British to defend Halifax. The building still looks impressive today. There are plenty of banks to sit around the old tower. There is also a simplistic public restroom nearby for your convenience.

Such a beautiful place. The history of the park just adds on to its beauty. I could spend hours there. It's a perfect picnic spot for a family, or even if you want a first date. It has all the aspects of a wonderful first time......But I guarantee, it wont be you're last visit!

The views from here are lovely. An overall map of the site would have been helpful. I'm not sure we actually saw the whole fortification. There is lots of free parking and picnic benches in a few locations. There is a lot of history represented and it is great to be able to be do close to the cannons. It doesn't take a lot of time to but it is worthwhile if you have any interest in history or want a great place to explore or picnic. There are washrooms on site.

Love this old fort. The park has been maintained really well, and the hiking trails are very extensive with beautiful views along the harbor looking toward McNabs Island. Spectacular views. There are a few geocaches in here to find if you are so inclined, and it is a great place for people to walk their dogs. You can see remnants of old structures that used to exist and see how this place was once used to keep a vigilant eye on any ships entering the Halifax harbour.

Very cool spot with alot of history. When we went alot of the buildings were closed up as it was the end of the season but still a great experience. The view out over the harbor and lighthouse is beautiful.

This was the first time back since they renovated the park for the 100 year anniversary and I can say that they did an amazing job. While the southern end is a family/kid friendly park with a playground, the northern end is a meaningful and respectful monument. Well worth at least a quick visit.

Hadn't been here in awhile and wow - beautiful playground, lots of friendly dogs being walked, and the design of this park is extremely impressive. A really beautiful part of Halifax. Funny - read the plaques and tried Googling and cannot figure out when the bells sound!? It's rare for something to be so well designed, though, for a city. Wish they had more parks like this one! 🐕🌳

We came upon this park by accident. The monument and carillon bells were a nice memorial to those who were impacted by the Harbour explosion. The Morris code of the last message sent from the Harbour was articulated in steel and was so well executed. I wish we were there to hear the bells ring.

There are two pokestops and two gyms within reach of the square, tho city hall gym is a drift nightmare so be careful of your raid lobbies! Pretty good spawns too so still five stars.

Beautiful and peaceful place in Halifax. I have to go there. People just stop, sit and relax a little in that place. The oldest building in Halifax is located there, the St. Paul's Church, founded in 1749 (the same year as the Halifax colony). The construction was begun in 1750. The City Hall is also located there, in the Grand Parade.

Not generally open to the public year round, t tours are offered and dates available on their web site. Having said that, the place was clean, well maintained, there are portable potties available, and a security camera set up I imagine to ensure safety and good behaviour. I paddled over vain kayak from Halifax, a short five minute stint. I look forward to going again sometime soon.

Great thing to do. Visited this island while they had tours happening one day. You could go, visit the island, eat lunch and try on costumes of the army. It was really fun. Nice view of halfway as well.

George's Island is rarely open to the public, so it's a real gem to visit when this occurs. It has forts, tunnels, cannons, a lighthouse and snakes to name a few of its charms. It's fairly small so a lot of these spots can be explored while on the island.

Sir Samuel Cunard, 1st Baronet (21 November 1787 – 28 April 1865), was a Canadian shipping magnate, born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, who founded the Cunard Line. He was the son of a master carpenter and timber merchant who had fled the American Revolution and settled in Halifax. He died in Kensington, London (UK) on 28 April 1865. He is buried at Brompton Cemetery in London. His coal company in Nova Scotia, which he bought to fuel his liners, remained the family's major investment in Nova Scotia and continued into the 20th century as Cunard Fuels, later bought out by the Irving Family.

Located inside the Halifax Public Garden, the pond has a mini replica of a historical ship. Beautiful just watching the ducks swim and waddle around in the pond that I unserstand was built in the 19th century around same time as the birth of the Canadian Confederation. Nice sight!

This fort was used during several major conflicts dating back to the 1800's and up to the Second World War. Lots of areas are open and ready to explore, although some graffiti is present since the area is unsupervised. Highly recommend a good flashlight for exploring some of the deeper areas to get a better appreciation of your surroundings and for safety.

Good number of stops, a pretty decent nest with plenty of spawn points, two gyms (one EX!). The local spot to start Community Day. Trails get very muddy and it closes a lot tho.

Such a Beautiful place in the heart of Halifax. Come here for a walk any time of year, but my favourite is September and October for the beautiful fall colours. The new high rise buildings going up next to the gardens almost give it a mini Central Park vibe. The staff here do such a great job. There is historic things to see and the tropical/desert garden in the summer is great to see.

Probably the most iconic monument in Halifax. Sits on Citadel Hill overlooking the harbour and downtown area. The clock works and it's a place people go to sit in the grass and relax with lunch.
