The Best Bed and Breakfast in Victoria

Beautiful Victorian home, nicely located in a residential neighborhood, one block from the ocean and a large beautiful park. This was perfect for ocean-side walks and walks through the park. Easy 15 minute walk to town or a short drive. The room was quite spacious and beautifully appointed with a very comfortable bed. We enjoyed the hospitality of both Paulanne and Alberto who were extremely friendly and helpful with our plans.

This is what you really need on holiday. A place to be, on walking distance from all the attractions. Paulanne is a great host and the house is a welcome home away from home. The Victorian house breathes heritage from every pore and the ambiance is amazing. ||Paulanne serves no breakfast, she changed her concept. We called it ironically the 'bed no breakfast'. This turned out to be great, because there was no need for a 'getting up early discipline' and Paulanne helped us out to nearby food-stores and supermarkets. ||We stayed a couple of nights at the beginning of our Vancouver Island roundtrip. Luckily we could make an instant reservation for two more nights at the end of our tour. When we returned we felt as welcome as the first time. Quaint heritage house with character. My room was clean, the shower was hot, and the mattress was firm. Would come back again.

Rooms looked gorgeous and was comfortable. The food was top notch and I really felt like I was a part of a family there. It's in the middle of Victoria Island so its only a stone's throw away from all the hotspots. I just had an amazing time in general and would implore anyone that's looking for a bed and breakfast to go to the Ashcroft House.

This is a beautiful heritage home close to downtown Victoria, BC, and very close to the ocean and all the excitement of seeing the cruise ships etc. We stayed for two nights during Canada day weekend and the location and everything about this B&B was perfect.

Vanessa provides a cozy and welcoming place to stay. Each room is filled with art and history. Very tidy and functional rooms. It felt like we were staying with a friend! Home-made Everything, with a twist of passion and creativity, for breakfast. Vanessa is one of the most wonderful gourmet chefs that I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. I dream about the breakfast that she made for us! Thank you so much, Vanessa & Sweet Helper Lady. We very much enjoyed our stay, and definitely recommend The Gingerbread Cottage! Great location as well. :)

[was the little girl that wanted tons of bacon ^^] I was amazed. I heard about the little nooks and crannies, and the hospitality, but it was beyond my expectations. And quite honestly, I'm hard to please. Amazing job on the decor and pretty much everything else! We're gonna buy all the jams and jellies. >:>

What an amazing space. The lady is sweet and a renowned Pastry Chef. It seems Old World, which is so much better than steel towers for a BNB. Something completely different and homey! Right downtown, close to everything but with a separate, relaxed feel. 💝💝💝

Wonderful BnB! Comfortable Victorian Style home, beautifully cluttered. Vanessa was a great hostess and her cooking-OH MY-her cooking was amazing. Best breakfast I've had in any BnB we've been in. If there is any draw back, it's that all rooms are upstairs making it difficult for those who are impaired.

This is our third stay at ginger bread. We have stayed at many b&bs,most are steril like sleeping in a hospital room.vanessa makes it seem like home.such a treat to stay there. She provides an awesome breakfast,as all the comments show. She also has coffee in the room and fresh baked goodies available 24/7,in case you need a midnight snack. The bed is to die for,with its amazing cuddly duvet. This is definitely not the run of the mill. It is eclectic in a fun way,lots of collection to peak at. Thumbs up for this jewel. Vanessa, the owner, owns and runs the Gingerbread Cottage. Each night's stay comes with a breakfast cooked by Vanessa and they are magnificent. Everything home made and farm/garden fresh. You'd easily pay $20 or more a person at a restaurant for such a breakfast.||||The bed was comfortable, the rooms were quiet. It's within walking distance of nearly everything you'd want to do in Victoria. We were very happy there.

We were so fortunate to have found this wonderful B&B. Vanessa is an excellent hostess and made us feel so welcome. The breakfasts were the most superb we have ever had...all homemade and prepared by Vanessa. My husband had the most amazing omelette and the eggs Benedict while I could not resist having the best ever crepes two days in a row. Before this wonderful treat there was an amazing buffet of fruit, cheeses, strudel, granola, poppy seed buns, yogurt and juices. This will be our go to place the next time we visit Victoria.

Sadly we only had one night at this location because I would have loved to stay longer! It felt like sleeping at home. The bed was amazingly comfortable, and the seagulls outside acted as wonderful background noise to fall asleep to. Jen made an amazing breakfast of blueberry cream cheese French toast and had everything I could have wanted or needed available. She even offered to do a load of laundry if I needed! I highly recommend staying here.

Positive: We loved the breakfasts, they suited us and set us up for the day. Our host was very knowledgeable about the area supplying excellent recommendations for things to do. Great also for the restaurant recommendations too. Heron Rock just up the road and Steamship.. Negative: Nothing. The only trouble I had was banging alloy wheels on very hard kerbs but that was my fault. I didn't use the provided off road parking immediately.

We stayed here for one night before travelling back to Vancouver airport to fly home to the UK and had an excellent stay. We were very welcomed to the house, shown places to eat and where to walk to access the main city centre and shops. The facilities were excellent and very clean, with a wonderfully decorated bathroom and spacious shower. The bathroom is down the hallway slightly but is still private for each room so not a problem. The bed was the most comfortable I’ve stayed in all holiday (what are the pillows made of!? They were wonderful!). Shame we could only stay one night. Breakfast was great too. Highly recommended.

Warm and welcoming owner and Sunday staff, beautiful home very accessible to Fishermans Wharf and downtown area sites.Our queen bed and bath were very clean and comfortable.Charming home as a way to imagine living in Victoria in the early 1900s.

Positive: Everything - it felt like visiting friends. And the Bent Mast Pub down the road was an added bonus!. Negative: It would have been nice to have an ensuite but we did have a bathroom for our sole use down the hall.

Positive: In good location for down town but away from the noise of City centre.. Negative: Cant think of anything.

Positive: Jen made us feel very welcome and served us wonderful breakfasts. Her heritage home is beautiful and our king size bed was really comfortable. We were walking distance to the harbour, parliament, the Empress and the Provincial Museum. The neighbourhood had many amenities close by and we walked to downtown restaurants too.. Negative: Although we had our own bathroom I would have liked an ensuite bath rather than a separate one. Some of the rooms in Fisher House have ensuites.

Amazing historical bed & breakfast in James Bay. Steps to the Parliament Building & the waterfront! If you are lucky enough to be able to snag the Carriage House Cottage DO IT! If Cottage is not available then their other rooms are just as amazing! Recommend recommend recommend! We are definitely repeat customers. We love the Carriage House bed and breakfast so much that we only stay here every time we come to Victoria! The have every thing we need! Why go anywhere else?

Nice place. Few steps away from the local Starbucks. The people working there were really nice. The breakfast was great! Enjoyed my stay.

Great little B&B. Naoko and Dan were very quick to reply and easy to communicate with. They accommodated some requests we had to the best of their ability. The location is probably the best you can have without forking over a lot of money in Victoria, a few blocks away from the legislature, and a 5 minute walk from the harbour. Their house was clean, breakfast was good, check in was easy. Everything was as advertised. They interacted with us a few mornings over breakfast and others they let us be. They're a really friendly couple who deserve your dollar.

Absolutely perfect location for easy access to downtown. On site parking and a great breakfast. Lovely character home that has not been modernized too much, so feels totally comfortable to be in!!! Gracious hosts and located in a very quiet neighbourhood. We stayed in the Carriage Room which had its own ensuite. Our son stayed in the Sun Room which had a shared bathroom. Totally fine in all respects. We will stay here again.

My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay at this B&B. Dan and Naoko were great hosts and very welcoming into their home. You couldn’t ask for a better location either- very quiet neighbourhood and a quick two minute walk to the downtown area. Breakfast was provided which was nice to get the day started and the wifi was fast and accessible. Will come back here again next time I’m in Victoria!! Thank you Dan and Naoko

I loved staying in the loft. Great tasting breakfast.

My sister booked the room for 4 people (my father got another room in the house). The room is very good and well equipped and Dan, his wife and their kid are lovely and very helpful. The breakfast was delicious and Dan would always stay and have a chat with us. I'd definitely go back.
